THE SILVER THIMBLE CHALLENGE

The Silver Thimble competition is held each year for members of the Leicestershire Quilters group. Each entry has been completed within the previous year. The entries are judged by fellow members of the group.

The photos below show 2019 winners.

The first prize was won by Christine Dumford with her quilt "Trees of the Four Seasons" Christine says " This quilt is based on a pattern by Kim McLean.  Originally I intended to use the needle turn appliqué method, but after sewing the first leaf I realised that it was going to take such a long time to stitch that I might never get it finished!

I did the appliqué by machine, using blind hem stitch.  It was worked in four sections which were sewn together once the leaf and twig appliqué was complete; then the sun, trunks and bowls were added.  Finally I machine quilted the background.

It took me about six months to make as it took a lot of time to find fabric in colours that I was happy with."

The second prize was won by Claire Thomas. A "crazy patchwork" technique was used to produce this abstract representation of an English Cottage Garden.
